The name New Covenant was given to Pastor Hopkins as found in Jeremiah 31:31-34 and Hebrews 8:7-13. The name summarizes the vision that God gave him which speaks of the NEW COVENANT. For the Lord said in these scriptures that He would put His laws into their minds, and write them in their hearts. He will be a God to them, and they shall be a people to Him. God commanded them to know Him, from the least to the greatest.
As the church's founder, he served as Pastor of New Covenant for 30 years, 1990 - 2020. He chose to transition from Senior Pastor and passed the mantle to his faithful Assistant Pastor, Dr. Dewayne Swift with the full support of the congregation. Dr. Swift had served alongside Bishop Hopkins for many years, and he and his wife had been very active in various leadership roles within the ministry for over 20 years prior to the transition.
Bishop Aron Hopkins, Founder and Pastor Emeritus of New Covenant Outreach Ministries, officiated the pastoral installation of Dr. Dewayne Swift on August 22, 2021.
